The West Kelowna Warriors opened the scoring, but ultimately fell 3-1 to the Salmon Arm Silverbacks in another rough and tumble pre-season game at Royal Lepage Place Saturday night.
Reed Gunville got the Warriors on the board in the 1st period burying a loose puck in the slot past Angus Redmond.
That would be all Redmond would allow on the night, as the Michigan Tech commit was red-hot and came up with some big saves in the win, making 40 saves.
Matty Saharchuk tied the game in the opening frame, before Jared Turcotte gave Salmon Arm the lead on the power-play early in the 2nd frame. The ‘Backs would go 1 for 6 on the man advantage.
West Kelowna could not find an answer for Redmond, as both Paul Lovsin and Jonathan Desbiens were robbed on 2 on 1’s in the final frame.
The final goal came on a scramble as Colton Thibault put one past Daniel Mannella, who was credited with 47 saves as the Silverbacks out-shot the Warriors 50-41.
The game would see 3 different fights like a night ago, as Rylan Yaremko tangled with Saharchuk, Garrett Forster would go with Brett Stewart in the 3rd, and Kylar Hope got his licks in with Nick Hutchinson on the night.
The Warriors will battle the Merritt Centennials in the Home Opener on Friday September 11th at 7 pm.
