VICTORIA, B.C. — The official start to the new BCHL season involves a road game just beyond the Malahat, and as many clean cars as possible.
The Victoria Grizzlies, eager to start the 2015-16 season with a game Friday night in Duncan against the Cowichan Valley Capitals, are also getting going with their community involvement calendar on Saturday with an event at Peninsula Co-op’s Keating Mall location (2132 Keating Cross Road in Saanichton) — players will be getting down and dirty, washing cars and connecting with fans.
The car wash on Saturday will run from 11am to 3pm.
“This is a great way for us to get started — play our opener, and then get our players out and involved in the community,” said Sonya Saujani, Vice-President of Operations and part of the local ownership group.
“Our franchise is committed to being part of community events as much as possible, and that involves a heavy emphasis on the Westshore area as well as Saanich, Saanichton, Esquimalt and the downtown core. This is a community-owned and operated team that plays out of a great facility with free parking, and the product on the ice is first-rate. Taking our players out into the community is a key part of our program.”
The Grizzlies, under Head Coach and GM Craig Didmon, open with five games away from home before playing the home opener on Thursday, October 1. Here is the list of the first five games:
