Returning player Colton Thomas and newcomer Reid Perepeluk each had a goal and an assist as the Cariboo Cougars opened their preseason schedule with a convincing 60 win Thursday evening over the Thompson Blazers.
The Cougars converted three of their powerplay opportunities into goals, added a shorthanded tally, scored once in a fouronfour situation, to go along with one even strength goal. Perepeluk set up Thomas to open the scoring on the power play, one of four firstperiod markers for the Cougars. Christopher Jandric on the power play, Dorian Long fouronfour and Trey Thomas on the power play also lit the lamp for the Cougars in the opening stanza. Perepeluk on the power play and Ty Kolle shorthanded rounded out the scoring in the second period. Mason Ritchey also had a twopoint night picking up a pair of helpers. Aaron Jakubowksi and Marcus Allen split the duties between the pipes and shared the shutout. The Cougars are back on the ice Friday morning at 10:30 against the Okanagan Hockey Academy. Veteran goaltender Dorrin Luding, Tyler Ho, and Jonas Harkins join the team in Kelowna today.
