September 12, 2015 Colwood, BC (ISN) – The relocated Westshore Velox Valhallians put their best foot forward Saturday on their new home pitch, defeating the James Bay Bays division one team 24-19 in exhibition play.

Rugby fans lined both sides of the Juan de Fuca field to take in some sun, and early season BC Rugby Union action. The Valhallians, finished first in their 2014-2015 regular season, Cowichan Cup campaign, while the Bays would settle for a lower 5th seed in the competitive Times Colonist Cup division.

In a gritty test, Velox would challenge the cross town side, using their physicality to drive the ball up field, leading the charge late into the end of the first half with a 12-0 betterment.  The Bays Kyle Laberge would show great pace late to beat the Velox field to the try line to pull his team to a respectable 12-5 deficit to end the opening half.

James Bay, taking the games opportunity to asses some new talent, would take advantage of some loose tackling and a quicker step on the wings to pull even with the Westshore team in the opening minutes of the second half with a try by Rupert Curtis for a 12-12 score.

Velox would reply with two unanswered tries mid and late in the half to shoot out to a 24-12 score. James Bay’s Kieran McAuley would tally the late tally to pull his Bays close at 24-19. Despite the late rally; the Valhallians would take first test match to the locker room with the win.
