Meghan Earle of the Acadia Axewomen’s soccer team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending Sept. 15, 2015.

A third-year kinesiology student from Mount Pearl, N.L., Earle posted five goals in two weekend wins as the Axewomen kicked off their season versus the Saint Mary’s Huskies and the Dalhousie Tigers.

Earle scored four consecutive goals in the first half in Friday’s 6-0 win over the Huskies in Wolfville, N.S. She netted Acadia’s second goal and the game winner in Sunday’s 6-1 victory against the Tigers in Halifax.

Justin Maheu of the Cape Breton Capers men’s soccer team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending Sept. 15, 2015.

A third-year striker from Ottawa, Ont. and the reigning AUS and CIS MVP, Maheu kicked off the 2015 season with a bang, scoring five times in two weekend wins at home for the Capers.

In a rematch of last year’s AUS championship game, Cape Breton hosted the UNB Varsity Reds Saturday. Maheu netted three goals, including the game-winner, as the Capers upset the CIS No. 4-ranked and defending champs 5-1.

Sunday, Maheu, who had 15 goals to lead the AUS in scoring last season, found the back of the net twice as Cape Breton shutout Moncton 6-0 to improve to 2-0-0 overall.

With 22 career goals now, Maheu currently sits third in CBU career scoring.
