The Camosun College Chargers made a jump start to the 2015 PACWEST golf season with a big 12-stroke win at University of British Columbia – Okanagan Invitational this weekend in Kelowna.

A field of seven men’s teams and two women’s teams came out to challenge the 18-hole, 6,885 yard Bear Course at the Okanagan Golf and Country Club. On the men’s side, finishing in the Top 3 over two days were the Camosun Chargers (580), the hosting UBC-O Heat (592) and the defending PACWEST Champions, the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades (597). Men’s Team Results and Standings

Despite a long first day and chalking up some big numbers on the leaderboard, the Chargers battled on to end Round 1 tied in first place with the tournament hosts at 292.

Day 2 saw Chargers newcomer Mac Keats (Cochrane, AB) card a 3 under 69 to capture the low score of the day and tie for second place for the weekend (142). Fourth-year veteran Brady Stead (Vernon) followed up his opening 71 with a steady 72 to finish fourth overall (143). Men’s Individual Scores

“The guys fought hard all weekend,” states Chargers Head Coach John Randle. “I’m proud of their grit and look forward to the rest of the season. With a little more work and getting rid of some mental errors, our best golf is still ahead of us!”

Up next in PACWEST golf action is the Kwantlen Polytechnic University Invitational (September 19-20) at the Northview Golf and Country Club in Surrey.
