Prince Albert, SK – Sean Montgomery scored the game-winning goal at 3:54 of overtime to lift the Prince Albert Raiders to a 6-5 victory over the Saskatoon Blades in their home opener on Saturday evening at the Art Hauser Centre.
Trading leads throughout the night, the Raiders led by as much as 3-0 mid-way through the game before the Blades fought back with four-straight goals. Prince Albert would regain their edge on the scoreboard in the third period, but the Blades continued to press and sent the game to an extra frame with a power play goal. In the overtime period, both teams received glorious scoring chances, but a one-time feed by Jordan Tkatch to Montgomery ended the game and sent the fans home happy.
Tkatch led all Raiders on Saturday night with a goal and three assists for four points, while Simon Stransky also came up big with three points (1g-2a). Austin Glover (1g-1a), Reid Gardiner (2a), and Hunter Warner (2a) picked up two points each. Jesse Lees and Luke Coleman also scored for Prince Albert.
The Blades received two goals from Wyatt Sloboshan. Cameron Hebig, Ryan Graham, and Josh Paterson also found the back of the net for the visitors.
Making back-to-back starts, Raiders’ goaltender Rylan Parenteau stopped 29 of 34 attempts. Nik Amundrud saw his first action of the season and made 29 saves on 35 shots for the Blades.
The Raiders outshot the Blades 35-34. Prince Albert went 3-for-5 on the power play, while Saskatoon was 2-for-9.
Prince Albert notches their first win of the season and evens their record at 1-1-0-0. Saskatoon earns a point, but slips to 1-0-1-0.
The Prince Albert Raiders play a pair of games at home next weekend in what is being dubbed the Giant Tiger Weekend. On Friday, October 2, the Vancouver GIANTS will visit the Art Hauser Centre, followed by the Medicine Hat TIGERS.
