VICTORIA, B.C. — At long last, the Victoria Grizzlies get to play at home, in front of their passionate fans and Grizz the team mascot.
And those fans, they will have popcorn, with the first 1,000 through the gate getting free popcorn.
Thursday night’s game (7pm) against the Coquitlam Express brings to an end a long road swing to start the 2015-16 BCHL schedule for the Grizzlies, as they hit the ice at The Q Centre for the first time. (TICKETS — 250-385-1555 or online through victoriagrizzlies.com)
The Grizzlies were on the road for three other teams’ home openers, and then the Bauer BCHL showcase in Chilliwack. The Grizzlies are 1-4 — all four losses were by one goal or included an empty-net goal against, with the victory coming in their last outing against the Prince George Spruce Kings.
The Home Opener will have a lot of fun, extra activities:
— A pre-game video tribute and season intro will get fans, coaches and players excited for the start of the campaign, with the video produced by Roy Anthonisen.
— Free popcorn for the first 1,000 people through the door, sponsored by the Grizzlies Booster Club
— First intermission, the debut of the Let’s Make A Deal contest, with prizes from businesses such as Market on Millstream, White Spot, Serious Coffee, Subway, Club Phoenix, Oughtred Coffee and Tea
— Second intermission, Galaxy Motors SHOOT TO WIN a $20,000 car! And Bucky’s Taphouse Buckshot on-ice contest
SUNDAY TAILGATE PARTY
On Sunday, after playing a Friday night game in Port Alberni, the Grizzlies get back to home ice for an afternoon game (2pm) that will be preceded by a BBQ in The Q Centre parking lot, sponsored by White Spot, starting at noon.
Roy Orbison tribute artist Mike Demers will be performing as well on Sunday.
