The University of Saskatchewan Huskie cross country team will compete for the lone time in the 2015 season at home Saturday in Saskatoon’s Victoria Park.
Canada West athletes from the University of Regina Cougars, University of Manitoba Bisons, MacEwan University Griffins, University of Alberta Golden Bears/Pandas, University of Calgary Dinos, as well as the Huskies will compete to help prepare their legs for the grand prize Canada West and CIS Championship in November.
The Sled Dog Open is the second meet on the Canada West non-conference cross country circuit. Saskatchewan will also compete at the Stewart Cup in Edmonton on October 31st. The 2015 Canada West and CIS Championship will take place November 14 in Guelph, Ont.
Fourth-year athlete Brooke Mentanko was the top finisher for the Huskies on the women’s side at the opening meet of the season, the Cougar Trot, in Regina on September 12th. Mentanko crossed the finish line, second, in a time of 19:40.
On the men’s side, first-year Huskie Erik Widing posted the best result for the Huskies in the Cougar Trot. Widing came in second with a time of 26:28.
Registration for the race begins at 10:30 a.m. The women’s five-kilometre race begins at 12 p.m., while the men’s eight-kilometre race begins at 12:30 p.m.
