Langley, BC—The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack are into the win column at the Best of the West exhibition women’s volleyball tournament in Langley.

The WolfPack have a 1-1 record after taking the Mount Royal Cougars in four sets on Saturday morning (Oct 3).  The scores at the Langley Events Centre were 25-17,25-27,25-19,26-24.

Iulia Pakhomenko (4th year, outside hitter, Donetsk, Ukraine) made up for lost time as she was dominant in the contest.

The CIS and Canada West all-star sat out Friday afternoon’s loss to the Calgary Dinos by playing this entire match notching 35 kills and 37 scoring points.  She hit .359.

“She was a key factor in today’s win,” said Wolfpack head coach Chad Grimm.

Katie Woo (4th year, setter, Surrey, BC) had 56 assists while Kaitlin Lomas (3rd year, middle, Ponoka, AB) had four solo blocks, hit .357 and had five kills.  “She was very efficient today as well,” Grimm added.

“We were more stable than last night and overall, we were playing more as a group,” the coach added. “ We are getting more on the same page in regards to what our jobs are and our play away from the ball.”

He said those were areas the team is focusing on this weekend.

Grimm also praised the play of Alyssa Wolf (5th year, South Surrey, BC).  “ I  started her on the left side and she moved to libero as the match went on.  She is embracing the new position and making less mistakes as we went along. That’s a good lesson for our entire lineup.”

TRU has one more match on Saturday: 7 pm against the UBC Thunderbirds.

The WolfPack kick off their 2015-16 Canada West regular seaon on Frdiay October 16 th in Edmonton against the Alberta Pandas.  Their home opener is one week later (Oct 23) at the Tournament Capital Centre against the MacEwan University Griffins. Game time is 6 pm.
