Langley, BC—The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack women’s volleyball team have opened up the 2015 West Coast Classic tournament with a five set defeat.
The ‘Pack lost to the University of Calgary Dinos 3-2. The scores were 17-15, 21-25,25-17,25-17,15-11. The match was played Friday (Oct 2) at the Langley Events Centre.
“It was a tale of two matches,” said WolfPack head coach Chad Grimm. “We started off well the first two sets. Our passing game was well and we were strong from the service line. But in the third and fourth set we started to struggle and gave up some unforced errors. Our pressure came off our serve and it hurt us.”
Grimm said the team did battle back in the latter half of the fifth set but by that time it was too late.
TRU was led by Kendra Finich (1st year, outside hitter, North Vancouver, BC) with 16 kills.
Krista Hogewoning (5th year, outside hitter, Delta, BC) played three sets and had 10 kills. Katie Woo (4th year, setter, Surrey, BC) had 49 assists.
TRU rested veteran players Iullia Pakhomenko (4th year, outside hitter, Donetsk, Ukraine), Brianne Rauch (4th year, Kimberley, BC) and Katarina Legutky (3rd year, outside hitter, Calgary, AB).
