SALEM, Ore. – The University of Victoria Vikes women’s cross-country team started off their 2015-16 season with a podium placing at the 41st Charles Bowles Willamette Invitational in Salem, Ore. on Oct. 3. The Vikes finished second overall to Northwest Christian University with a team score of 46. Alison Hooper returned to action for the Vikes, finishing sixth out of all competitors.


Three Vikes – Hooper, Shauna McInnis and Chloe Hegland – finished in the top 10 with Hooper leading the pack for the Vikes with a time of 17:42.9. Hooper is a welcome addition back to the Vikes women’s cross-country line-up after taking time off to focus on triathlons.

“It was great to see Allison back in a Vikes uniform this year, said Vikes women’s cross-country head coach Brent Fougner. ” Overall, it was a great start to the season by the Vikes women’s team.”

McInnis and Hegland finished close behind Hooper with times of 17:51.0 and 17:57.0, respectively. Third-year Emma Bibault had a solid outing of 18th with a time of 18:24.1. First-year Andie Wood finished 28th with a time of 18:47.9 in her first event as a Vike.

First-year Laurin Thorne followed behind at 19:03.7 in 36th with Caroline Herrell behind her in 52nd with 19:39.8. First-year Laurel Booker wrapped up the times for the rookies with a 52nd place 19:45.7, whileAndrea Robinson wrapped up the day for the Vikes with a 65th place 19:54.2.

“I am looking forward to building on these results through the next few weeks leading into CIS Championships.”

The Vikes return to action below the border on Oct. 10 when they travel to Bellingham, Wash. for the Western Washington Classic.
