The Victoria Cougars begin a stretch of three-games-in-three-nights this Wednesday when they travel to Colwood to take on the red-hot Westshore Wolves.
Game time at The Q Centre, located at 1767 Old Island Highway, is 7:00 p.m.
Victoria (6-1-1-0) will then return home to face the Saanich Braves on Thursday before venturing up to North Saanich on Friday to take on the Peninsula Panthers.
In their only meeting so far this season, the Cougars handed Westshore an embarrassing 10-1 loss three weeks ago in Esquimalt. Cody Hodges, Dom Kolbeins, and Austin Wilk recorded four points apiece, Ryan Carson, John Kretzschmar and Brett Lervold each potted a pair of goals, and Anthony Ciurro stopped 18 shots in that game.
Scoring for the Wolves was Jacob Malloch.
Seven of the ten goals scored came on the power play.
After that ill-fated night, Westshore dropped to 0-4-0-0 on the season. Since then, the Wolves have rattled off five straight wins to leapfrog out from the basement and into third place in the highly competitive South Island Division.
Westshore (5-4-0-0) moved above the .500 mark for the first time this season following a 6-2 win over the Kerry Park Islanders last Saturday.
During their five-game winning streak, the Wolves have posted one shutout while outscoring their opposition 19-8. Cory Hatcher and Branden Tangney are both on four-game point streaks, registering six points and nine points respectively during that span.
Victoria extended its unbeaten streak to two games following a 4-1 win over the Nanaimo Buccaneers last Thursday. Bitten by the injury bug, the Cougars were forced to call upon forward Nicholas Looysen and goaltender Tyler Smith for their services.
Hodges leads all Cougars scorers with eight goals and eight assists in eight games.
On Thursday, Victoria seeks revenge in a rematch with the upstart Braves (5-3-1-0). It was not too long ago when Saanich handed the Cougars a 4-2 loss for their only defeat of the season.
Since acquiring former Victoria Royals’ forward Brandon Fushimi, the Braves have posted three wins, one loss, and one tie. Fushimi has three goals and two assists for five points in five games.
Friday night’s encounter marks the third of eight meetings between the Panthers (3-7-0-1) and Victoria this season. The Cougars won both games by scores of 6-3 and 6-1.
Peninsula is a young squad, made up of two 16-year-olds, seven 17-year-olds, four 18-year-olds, six 19-year-olds, and only three 20-year-olds.
