RICHMOND, BC (PGA of BC) – The PGA of British Columbia is pleased to announce the recipients of three of its 2015 Awards: Media Personnel of the Year, Jim Gibson Patron of the Year, and the Distinguished Service Award. The recipients, along with the winners of ten other PGA of BC Awards, will be recognized at the PGA of BC Awards Ceremony, held on October 14 at the River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond.
Introduced in 2014, the Media Personnel of the Year Award recognizes a media member or organization that has made a significant contribution to the PGA of BC over the past year. This year, we are happy to present this award to Brad Ziemer of the Vancouver Sun. A long-time sports reporter for the Sun, Ziemer’s frequent coverage of PGA of BC events and programs strongly contributes to the growth of the game of golf in both the province of BC, and across the country. He frequently makes mention of tournament results in his B.C. Golf Notes articles, and this year provided coverage to one of the PGA of BC’s lesser known events, the Playing Ability Test hosted at Hazelmere Golf & Tennis Club. Ziemer is strong supporter of the PGA of BC, and we thank him for continuously sharing our stories with his wide audience.
The Jim Gibson Patron of the Year Award is presented each year to a person or group of people outside the PGA of BC membership that demonstrates an exceptional contribution to the Association’s initiatives. This year, the PGA of BC is proud to present this award to Competitions Advisor and Rules Official, Jack Croucher. Croucher is a long-time volunteer and supporter of the Association, and tirelessly supports PGA of BC events beyond officiating. The PGA of BC’s Competitions Advisor for the past five years, Croucher ensures tournaments are presented with the utmost professionalism. In 2015, he demonstrated a tremendous dedication to the game as he travelled from Kamloops to Victoria with three of Rivershore Golf Club’s junior players, so they could compete in the Jack McLaughlin Memorial PGA of BC’s Pro-Junior Championship hosted at Olympic View Golf Club. Croucher is what can only be described as an exceptional ambassador of the PGA of British Columbia and the game of golf as a whole.
The PGA of BC Distinguished Service Award presented by DGL Sports is awarded to a PGA of BC member who demonstrates exceptional commitment to the Association by supporting and promoting the Association’s brand and initiatives. This year, the PGA of BC is pleased to present this award to Michael Van Horne, Head Professional at Fernie Golf & Country Club. Despite residing a great distance away from most of the Association’s events, Van Horne makes an effort to attend as many as possible. He is an ambassador for the Association in the Kootenays, often volunteering his time to help execute local seminars, and growing the game through junior programs, as well as assisting in the coordination of charity events held at the Club. Van Horne has also been the Commissioner of the Kootenay Pro Series for the past several years, and is highly involved with the youth of the city of Fernie through school programs in the public and private systems.
We congratulate the above on their achievements, and look forward to recognizing them, along with 10 other recipients, at the PGA of BC Awards Celebration next week. The event will take place October 14 at the River Rock Casino Resort. For more information, or to purchase tickets, please click here.
