The Rams, coached by the invaluable Mark Townsend, have improved to 6-0 with the win while the SunDevils have sunk to a misleading 3-3 record in the B.C. Highschool Football rankings. The Sundevils, after going a perfect 3-0 in exhibition play, have now dropped their first three games of the regular season, enduring the loss of some key players.

Coach Townsend, careful not to be too overconfident in the win would comment, “South Delta played a very tough game.  I give full credit to them, as I know they had more than their share of injuries going into the game.  Once South Delta gets those players back they will be a force to be reckon with down the stretch”.

Rams starting freshman QB Gideon Kremler, showing poise, maturity and physical talent beyond his age, led his team to the victory with another strong game, completing 20-26 passes for 178 yards and three touchdowns against an otherwise physical South Delta defense.

After the SunDevils would open the scoring in the midway through first quarter, Kremler would eventually find success, hooking up with Gavin Cobb on a 2-yard pass just inside the house to even the score. Kremler would find Cobb twice earlier in the end zone only have the TD’s negated by official’s rulings.

Both teams would spar defensively well into the second quarter until Gevhahn McNally-Hardisty would be the recipient of a 17-yard Kremler TD pass to take a 12-6 lead into the locker room at the half.

After a tight first half of scoring, the Rams would explode for 4 TD’s in the second half; three of those in the final quarter enroute to the 39-6 win.  Kremler would toss his third and final TD of the game in the third to Cobb to start the SunDevil route.

Declann Michielin would contribute two of the three fourth quarter tallies, rushing for 104 physical yards that included TD’s of 22 and 18 yards respectively.  Gavin Cobb, taking over QB duties from Kremler, would go three for three passing, closing out the game scoring with the Rams fourth and final TD on a 21-yrd toss to Josh Lucas. Cobb also contributed 50 yards rushing, and pulled down 9 receptions for 77 yards, to go with his 2 TD’s on the afternoon. Oliver MacKenzie would also have a big game for the purple and gold with 8 catches for 78 yards.

In a definitive, well-rounded team effort, the Rams defensive core added to the offensive successes, stymying the SunDevils attempts at tilting the field in their favor.  Notable players such as linebacker Declann Michielin made his presence known with 8 tackles and 2 interceptions. Oliver Mackenzie had 3 tackles and 2 interceptions. Shawn Dillon, Quinn Jenish, Gavin Cobb all had 4 tackles each in the contest.

Pleased with the his team’s overall effort, coach Townsend would compliment,” We had missed opportunities in the 1st half in part to our own mistakes coupled with a determined South Delta defense. Our defensive play was very strong in throughout the contest and we were pleased with our offensive response and play in the 2nd half. “

The Mt. Douglas Rams next take on the 3-4 New West, in a home game match up on Friday October 23rd, at 3:00pm.
