The Portland Winterhawks have acquired a fourth round pick in the 2017 Western Hockey League Bantam Draft from the Medicine Hat Tigers in exchange for defenseman Nick Heid.
With the deal, the Hawks are re-acquiring the pick they sent the Tigers last season for Miles Koules.
Heid played 17 games last season as a rookie before undergoing shoulder surgery in January that sidelined him for the remainder of the campaign. He suited up in the first two games of this season and registered his first career point with an assist, but has not played since due to an upper body injury.
“Nick worked extremely hard to recuperate from last season’s shoulder injury, and was a tremendous teammate throughout his recovery,” said Portland Winterhawks General Manager & Head Coach Jamie Kompon. “However, we feel that this deal will allow Nick to earn more playing time and advance his career. He’s a quality person and we wish him the best as he joins the Tigers.”
