After moving into the cup semis with a 33-0 win over the Stars Sevens, Canada lost 31-7 to the Aussie Pearls in a rematch of last year’s final.

MAPLE LEAFS 33–0 STARS SEVENS

Canada’s quest to become the first team to win back-to-back Central Coast Sevens titles remains alive after they advanced to the cup semi-finals. It took less than 45 seconds for Canada to go ahead as Mandy Marchak took a pass from captain Jen Kish, fended off a defender and cruised in to score under the posts.

Canada added two more tries before the break as Kayla Moleschi and Kish touched down for a 19-0 lead at the interval.

Magali Harvey got things rolling for the Maple Leafs in the second half two minutes in as she ran more than 60 meters, threw in a dummy to throw off her defender and scoring untouched before Julia Greenshields added a fifth try after the final hooter had sounded.

Breanne Nicholas, Emily Belchos and Caroline Crossley played for the Stars in this game.

MAPLE LEAFS 7-31 AUSSIE PEARLS

In a rematch of last year’s final, the Aussie Pearls got revenge as they eliminated the Maple Leafs.

The Pearls struck twice in the opening four minutes to take a quick 12-0 lead as the Australian side dominated possession. Canada finally got into the game and were inside the Pearls’ 22 but a turnover at a breakdown was collected by Ellia Green who sprinted down the wing untouched to put the Pearls up 17-0 at half time.

Canada were rewarded two minutes into the second half as Magali Harvey used her pace to get around the Pearls defence and touch down in the corner before converting her own try with a fantastic kick.

The Maple Leafs continued to attack the Australian line but couldn’t find a second try and ultimately gave up two late scores as they took more risks to find a breakthrough.
