Vikes women place fifth in CSU San Marcos Fall Classic

VICTORIA, B.C. — The University of Victoria Vikes women’s gold team left the Twin Oaks Golf Course in San Marcos, Cali. with a fifth place score of 638 (+60) in the CSUSM Fall Classic.  Laura Ferreira‘s two round score of 154 (77, 77) lead the way for the Vikes, finishing tied for eighth out of all competitors.

Point Nola ran away with the tournament in the team standings, amassing a 30 shot lead and finishing with a team score of 589 (+13). Lewis followed behind in second with 619 (+43).
Point Nola’s Samantha Stockton came away with the best individual score, shooting 142 (69, 73) with the best round of 69. She was the only golfer to shoot below 70 throughout the tournament’s two rounds. Lewis’ Rachel Sweeney finished second with 145 (72, 73) while Stockton’s teammate Haley Fuller rounded out the top-3 with 146 (71, 75).
Nicole Gargarella was the next best Vike, tying for 20th with 162 (79, 83). Cadence Hellman, Quinn Fitzgerald and Shannon Raina had 20th, T25th and 30th place showings with 163 (83, 80), 164 (78, 86) and 167 (86, 81) tournament scores, respectively.
The Vikes now wait until May 17-20 for their next event in the NAIA National Championships at the Savannah Quarters Country Club in Pooler, Ga.
