Prince Albert, SK – Jon Martin scored a natural hat-trick during the second period as the Swift Current Broncos defeated the Prince Albert Raiders 4-2 on Saturday night at the Art Hauser Centre.
Acquired earlier this season from the Kootenay Ice and named the Broncos’ team captain this week, Martin made his presence felt with three goals and an assist in the second period. His performance helped the Broncos erase a two-goal Raider lead and secure the win.
The Raiders received goals in the first period from Sean Montgomery and Dalton Yorke. Luke Coleman, Vojtech Budik, Austin Glover and Reid Gardiner picked up assists.
The four-point effort by Martin was matched by Jake DeBrusk who assisted on all four Swift Current goals. Glenn Gawdin also had a big game with a goal and two assists for three points.
Making his third-straight start, Raiders netminder Rylan Parenteau stopped 30 of 34 shots. Broncos’ starter Landon Bow made 13 saves on 15 shots before being replaced during the first intermission. Travis Child was perfect in relief turning away all 23 shots he faced.
The Raiders outshot the Broncos 38-34. Prince Albert went 0-for-2 on the power play, while Swift Current was 2-for-3.
The loss is the Raiders’ first regulation defeat on home ice this year and drops their record to 11-3-1-1. The Broncos’ win moves their record to 6-7-2-0.
The Prince Albert Raiders continue their five-game home stand on Wednesday, November 4 when they battle the Calgary Hitmen. Puck drop is 7:00 PM from the Art Hauser Centre.
