CAMPBELL RIVER, B.C. – Nathan Looysen, Ryan Carson, and Taylor Leger each had hat tricks as the Victoria Cougars blew out the Campbell River Storm 13-0 before more than 950 stunned fans at the Strathcona Gardens Recreation Complex on Friday.
Each player finished the game with six, five, and four points respectively.
Victoria also received a pair of goals and an assist from Cody Hodges while single markers went to Mitch Moloney and James Scott.
It was 8-0 after one period and 11-0 after two.
Anthony Ciurro made 31 saves to pick up his league-leading ninth win. The Peoria, Arizona native also continues to lead the VIJHL in goals against average (1.44), save percentage (.942), and shutouts (4).
The win improves the Cougars record to 13-4-1-0.
Victoria scored four goals on its first five shots, sending newcomer Andy Gilker to the bench. His replacement, Matt Kostiw, allowed five goals on 12 shots before making way to Gilker.
The game was pretty much over after that.
Gilker, a recent signee from Varennes, Quebec, returned to make three saves on seven shots.
The Cougars went 1-for-5 on the power play; meanwhile, Campbell River finished 0-for-4.
Dom Kolbeins, Austin Wilk, Ryan Buse, Nico Somerville, and Brandon Tutte each recorded multiple-point nights.
The Storm falls to 10-5-1-1.
