The first race of the 2016 UCI Track Cycling World Cup begins this weekend in Cali, Colombia with Victoria’s Evan Carey competing in the men’s team sprint. Evan has been a national team member since fall 2014.

In January 2015 he was part of the gold medal-winning team sprint and won individual bronze medals in the sprint and keirin at the Canadian Championships, held at the Milton Velodrome. In July he won gold in the team sprint in the Pan Ams. Last month representing Victoria’s Dr. Walker Sports Chiropractic Team in the track nationals, he won gold in the team composite and bronze in the team sprint.

Pacific Cycling Centre’s Houshang Amiri has coached Evan: “He has worked very hard for last two-three years giving up many things in life in pursuit of his dream. His work ethic is exceptional, he is very coachable and he has the ability to adapt.”

Canada’s track cycling team will be looking to qualify for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games, and the World Cup season culminating with the UCI World Championships, will be critical in the qualification process
