Maddie MacKenzie of the CIS No. 7-ranked Acadia Axewomen’s rugby team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport female athlete of the week for the week ending Nov. 1, 2015.
A fourth-year science student in her third year of eligibility from Peterborough, Ont., MacKenzie scored three tries as the Axewomen defeated the reigning AUS and CIS champion X-Women 34-17 in the 2015 Subway AUS Rugby Championship final game to claim Acadia’s first-ever AUS rugby banner.
The fly half earned Subway player of the game honours and was named the championship most valuable player for her efforts. She was also named to the 2015 AUS all-star team Friday evening following the win.
The Axewomen now enter the 2015 CIS women’s rugby championship as the top-seeded team. The national championship is being hosted by Queen’s University in Kingston, Ont. Nov. 5-8. The Axewomen will face the host Queen’s Gaels Thursday at 7 p.m. in the quarter-final round.

Matt McNeil of the Dalhousie Tigers men’s cross country team is the Subway Atlantic University Sport male athlete of the week for the week ending Nov. 1, 2015.
The fifth-year runner from Saint John, N.B. was the first to cross the finish line at the Subway AUS Cross Country Championship hosted by St. Thomas at Odell Park in Fredericton, N.B. over the weekend.
He set a new course record, winning the 10km event in a time of 31:14.1, nearly 40 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. As the top finisher, Matt was named the AUS athlete of the year in addition to being an AUS all-star.
