NAIT Women’s Soccer Team To Play for CCAA Nationals GOLD Saturday

Ooks Women’s Soccer Team at CCAA Nationals 
The NAIT Ooks women’s soccer team are in Peterborough, Ontario at the 2015 CCAA Nationals hosted by Fleming College.
The #2 seeded Ooks defeated the #3 seeded Douglas College Royals in their semi-final match Thursday to advance to the National Championship Gold medal game Saturday versus the #1 FX Garneau Elans from Quebec.

Day 1 – Wednesday, Nov. 11
CCAA Nationals Quarter-Finals
#2 NAIT Ooks defeated the  #7 MSVU Mystics 6-0

The first match-up of the tournament saw the top-seeded Ooks from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) challenge the Mount Saint Vincent (MSVU) Mystics from Halifax, Nova Scotia. MSVU was able to compete with the Ooks until the 27th minute before the Ooks broke through with 3 goals before the half. In the second half, NAIT came on strong and was able to work the ball around MSVU and complete the chances they were given. The Ooks would add 3 more second half goals and the Edmonton team proved to be too much for the Mystics, taking the game with a score of 6-0.

Day 2 – Thursday, Nov. 12
CCAA Nationals Semi-Final
#2 NAIT Ooks defeated the #3 Douglas College Royals 2-1
The NAIT Ooks and Douglas College Royals took to the field for a very evenly matched contest. NAIT’s Kayla Michaels scored her third goal of the tournament in the 28th minute to give the Ooks a 1-0 lead. Douglas replied just before the half as the two teams went to the break tied 1-1. The Ooks got the winning goal in the 65th minute when Kassy Jajczay scored on a broken play after a free kick taken from Kelsey Mitchell. In the end the Royal just couldn’t find a way past the Ooks keeper Kailey Harder who made several spectacular saves to give her team the victory.
