VICTORIA, B.C. – Over the weekend the University of Victoria Vikes men’s cross-country team took away a nine-year reign of national banners from the Guelph Gryphons, hosts of this year’s 2015 CIS Cross-Country Championship in Guelph, Ont.
Fourth-year Vike Olivier Collin paced the Victoria side to their fifth CIS national title and first since 1997. For his efforts Collin was named Canada West Male First Star of the Week.
Collin, who battled through immense injuries leading up to the weekend, finished 10-km race in 30:27.7 to take fourth place in the CIS rankings and first overall in Canada West. For his finish Collin was named a CIS First Team All-Canadian, Canada West First Team All-Star and Canada West Male Outstanding Athlete of the Year.
Collin was one of four Vikes to finish in the Top-10 of the CIS standings, as the Vikes totaled 69 points, 13 lower than second-placed Guelph, for the national banner. The Vikes also took home the conference banner as Canada West champions for the fourth-straight and 16thoverall time.
