Coquitlam, BC (November 27, 2015)– The best women curlers in the province will be showcased in the city when the Coquitlam Curling Club hosts the 2016 Scotties BC Women’s Curling Championship, presented by Best Western.
The event will take place from January 19-24, 2016, and will feature eight elite women’s curling teams vying for their chance to go to nationals. The semi-finals and finals of the provincial event will be televised on Sportsnet.
Patti Knezevic’s Prince George rink will return to the championship in 2016 to defend her 2015 title. The team is made up of Knezevic, Kristen Pilote, Jen Rusnell and Rhonda Camozzi. The Kelowna rink of six-time BC women’s champion Kelly Scott, with Third Shannon Aleksic, Second Jenna Loder and Lead Sarah Pyke were the top CTRS (Canadian Team Ranking System) team and qualified based on those results. The remaining six berths will be awarded at playdowns, which take place at Kelowna Curling Club this weekend (November 27-29 – three berths) and the Golden Ears Winter Club from December 11-13 (three berths). New for 2016, the Coquitlam event will feature eight teams in a round robin draw.
The Coquitlam Curling Club is hosting the event in its home at the state-of-the-art Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex, which was completed in 2010.
The event will attract curling fans from across the province and will be viewed by curling fans across the nation when it is televised on Sportsnet.

The winner of the 2016 BC Scotties will travel to Grande Prairie, Alberta, in February 2016 for the 2016 Scotties Tournament of Hearts Canadian Women’s Curling Championship.
Coquitlam Curling Club has recently hosted two provincial championships, the 2014 BC Wheelchair Championship and the 2013 Tim Hortons BC Junior Curling Championships.
