Prince Albert heads into holiday break with impressive win over the East Division leader
Prince Albert, SK – The Prince Albert Raiders stunned the Brandon Wheat Kings with three goals in the opening period and took their final game before the holiday break with a 5-2 decision on Saturday night at the Art Hauser Centre.
Coming in on a high after a big win on Friday versus the Kelowna Rockets, the Raiders wasted little time making their presence felt with big hits and a goal on the game’s first shift. Prince Albert would get three goals in the first period and match Brandon the rest of the way.
Luke Coleman (1g-1a), Jordan Tkatch (1g-1a), and Tim Vanstone (2a) each recorded two points to lead the Raiders. Kolten Olynek, Jesse Lees, and Brendan Guhle also found the back of the net in the win.
Brandon scored both of their goals in the middle frame off the sticks of Tyler Coulter and Reid Duke.
Ian Scott made his second start in as many nights in the Raiders’ crease and made 25 saves on 27 shots. Jordan Papirny turned away 31 shots on 35 attempts.
The Raiders outshot the Wheat Kings 36-27. Prince Albert went 1-for-3 on the power play, while Brandon was 1-for-2.
Prince Albert wraps up the unofficial first half of the season with a 20-11-2-1 record. With the loss tonight, Brandon’s lead atop the East Division shrinks to two points as their record drops to 21-11-1-2.
The Raiders will now enjoy a holiday break before returning to action on Sunday, December 27, when they host the Saskatoon Blades at the Art Hauser Centre. Puck drop is 7:00 PM.
