VANCOUVER, BC – Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced on Tuesday that the club will begin their sixth season in Major League Soccer by hosting Canadian rivals Montreal Impact on Sunday, March 6 at BC Place. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. PT and will be broadcast live on TSN1 and TSN 1410 radio in Vancouver.
Following their home opener, Whitecaps FC will play their first road match on Saturday, March 12 against Sporting Kansas City at Children’s Mercy Park.
MLS announced the home openers for all 20 clubs on Tuesday. Kickoff times and broadcast details for the remainder of 2016 MLS matches will be revealed in the coming weeks as part of the complete regular season schedule announcement.
This will be the second time in six seasons that the ‘Caps host Montreal to start their MLS campaign. In 2012, Whitecaps FC won 2-0 over the Impact, who were making their MLS debut. The 2016 season opener will mark Montreal’s first MLS regular season visit to Vancouver since acquiring star striker Didier Drogba.
The ‘Caps and Impact also met last year in the Amway Canadian Championship final, with Vancouver lifting their first Voyageurs Cup after a 2-0 second leg victory at BC Place.
