Blue and Gold Room

VICTORIA – The opening 2016 University of Victoria Vikes men’s and women’s basketball games in the new Centre for Athletics, Recreation and Special Abilities involved a special ceremony as the official RBC Blue and Gold Room was unveiled on Jan. 8. The box suite overlooking the new performance gym is an iconic feature to the 2,100 capacity basketball stadium and representatives of the Royal Bank of Canada were on site to be recognized and enjoy the capacity-crowd atmosphere.

“Royal Bank is honoured to be involved with the new CARSA facility at UVic,” said Tom Siemens, Vice-President of Commercial Financial Services at RBC. “RBC’s partnership with UVic spans decades and our shared values of community involvement and personal development are perfectly aligned with the advent of the new CARSA facility.  Go Vikes!”

Siemens and other RBC guests enjoyed the box suite view of the Vikes basketball games, while a special unveiling ceremony took place on centre court between the women’s and men’s games against Manitoba.

“Philanthropic support from individuals and corporations, like RBC, allows our university to provide value-added experiences to our students and scholars,” added Tom Zsolnay, Associate Vice-President of UVic Alumni and Development. “‘First class facilities like CARSA would not be possible without their support.”

The RBC Blue and Gold Room follows other community partners in supporting the CARSA building, which officially opened in May 2015. The Peninsula Co-op Climbing Centre and the Lynda and Murray Farmer Walk of Excellence are also iconic parts of the 190,000-square-foot athletics and recreation facility.

“We are deeply grateful to Royal Bank for their generous contribution to UVic and our CARSA project,” said Clint Hamilton, director of Vikes Athletics and Recreation. “This expression of confidence and support is important in our quest to provide outstanding athletic, recreational and engagement opportunities for our diverse community and we appreciate it very much.”

The RBC Blue and Gold Room is available for use during varsity games and offers comfortable arm chairs inside the private suite. With seating for 34, this room is ideal for corporate parties, client nights and social gatherings. Catering partner Degrees Catering offers a variety of food and snack options as well as a fully serviced bar.
