‘Caps have six picks in the MLS 2016 Superdraft

BALTIMORE, MD – Vancouver Whitecaps FC have six selections in the 2016 MLS SuperDraft, which will kick off today at 10 a.m. PT in Baltimore, Maryland. The first two rounds will be streamed live from the Baltimore Convention Centre on whitecapsfc.com/2016superdraft

 

, while rounds three and four will take place on Tuesday, January 19, via conference call.

Whitecaps FC hold their natural first, second, and fourth round selections, and have acquired additional picks in the second, third, and fourth rounds via previous transactions.

Selected players will be available to media upon request and Whitecaps FC head coach Carl Robinson will address the media via conference call following the first two rounds of the SuperDraft. First Round
No. 16: Natural first round selection

Second Round
No. 29: Acquired Toronto’s second-highest second-round pick in exchange for Steven Beitashour (2015.12.18)
No. 36: Natural second round selection

Third Round
No. 50: Acquired Toronto’s natural third-round selection in exchange for the discovery rights of Robert Earnshaw (2013.02.28)

Fourth Round
No. 71: Acquired New England’s natural fourth-round selection in exchange for Daigo Kobayashi (2014.02.26)
No. 77: Natural fourth round selection

Whitecaps FC currently have 23 players on their MLS roster including five who were selected by the club in the MLS SuperDraft first-round between 2012 and 2015: Darren Mattocks, Kekuta Manneh, Erik Hurtado, Christian Dean, and Tim Parker. Six first team players are Homegrown Players via the club’s Residency program: Russell Teibert, Sam Adekugbe, Marco Carducci, Kianz Froese, Marco Bustos, and Ben McKendry. Whitecaps FC players are set to report for the start of preseason camp on Friday, January 22, before a week of on-field training in Vancouver from Monday, January 25 through Friday, January 29. The team travels to Tucson, Arizona, on Sunday, January 31, and will be back in Vancouver on Wednesday, February 10.
