Richmond gears up to host 2016 BC Senior Curling Championships



Richmond, BC (January 14, 2016)The Richmond Curling Club is gearing up to host the 2016 Tim Hortons BC Senior Curling Championships.

The event will take place from February 15-21, 2016, and will feature the province’s best male and female curlers aged 50+. Sixteen teams from across the province will be vying for the opportunity to represent BC at the Canadian Senior Curling Championships in Digby, Nova Scotia.

Regional playdowns take place in Grand Forks, Enderby, Nanaimo and Abbotsford this weekend – January 15-17, to decide who will challenge for the B.C. title.

Two teams from northern BC – a men’s team and a women’s team – have already qualified for the event after playdowns in Kitimat over the weekend of January 8-10. Team Boese, from Smithers Curling Club, features skip Garnet Boese, from Prince George, as well as third Ron Vanderstar (Smithers), second Lyle Hensrud (Mackenzie) and lead Leonard Vanderstar (Smithers). Team Bulleid, from Terrace Curling Club, is the first women’s team to qualify. The team is made up of skip Lisa Bulleid, third Sylvia Griffith, second Kathie Simpson and lead Joan Kucharyshen.
