Jan. 19, 2016 – Camosun College has been awarded the 2017 CCAA Women’s Volleyball National Championship.
Their bid to host Nationals was approved today at the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association’s annual Winter Board Meeting in Ottawa. The event will take place in Victoria, BC, March 8-11, 2017.
“We are looking forward to this opportunity of showcasing women’s volleyball at the national collegiate level to the rest of the country, making this Championship a memorable experience for all involved,” said Graham Matthews, Athletics Coordinator at Camosun.
Tournament action will take place at the Pacific Centre for Sports Excellence (PISE), a beautiful facility Camosun calls home. Since moving into PISE six years ago, the Chargers Athletics program has hosted two PACWEST Provincials, including the 2015 Men’s & Women’s Volleyball Championships.
“The success and positive feedback received from this past event has provided the College with the confidence of moving to the next step in taking on the responsibilities of hosting the CCAA Women’s Volleyball National Championship,” said Matthews.
Last March, the Chargers defeated Humber College to finish third at the 2015 CCAA Women’s Volleyball National Championship at Cégep Édouard-Montpetit in Longueuil, QC. The gutsy performance earned Camosun its first ever medal in women’s volleyball.
“Camosun’s women’s volleyball program has come on strong in the last couple of years nationally with winning a bronze medal last year,” said Fred Batley, CCAA Women’s Volleyball Convenor. “With a new facility, momentum, a fan base, many volunteers I know that Graham and his organizing committee will do a fantastic job.”
The 2016 CCAA Women’s Volleyball National Championship will be hosted by Holland College in Charlottetown, PEI, March 9-12.
