Everett, WA- Victoria Royals’ netminder Griffen Outhouse turned away all 28 shots he faced to shutout the Everett Silvertips 3-0 on Saturday night at the Xfinity Arena.
Now in the midst of an 11 game winning streak, the Royals have tied a franchise record for most consecutive contests with a point at 14 (13-0-1-0). The record was previously set January 21 – February 19 (12-0-1-1) during the 2013-14 regular season.
Victoria’s Outhouse delivered a first star performance as he recorded his fourth shutout of the season. The four shutouts ties him for first among rookie goaltenders in the Western Hockey League.
The Royals’ Jack Walker tallied the game winner midway through the second period when he blasted a slapshot past Everett netminder Carter Hart on the powerplay. Victoria’s Tyler Soy scored just over five minutes later, and added an empty-net goal in the third period to round out the game’s scoring.
Everett’s Hart was busy all night and stopped 32 of the 34 shots fired his way.
The Royals went 1/5=20.0% on the powerplay, while the Silvertips were 0/5=0.0% with the man-advantage.
Victoria will continue their four-game road trip tomorrow when they take on the Seattle Thunderbirds at 5:05 p.m. The Royals will then play the Portland Winterhawks on Monday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. Victoria will wrap-up their trip on Wednesday in Vancouver for a matinee contest against the Giants at 12:00 p.m.
The Royals return home for a back-to-back series against the Kamloops Blazers on February 19th and 20th. Saturday night’s game is the Royals’ fifth annual Pink in the Rink Night in support of the BC Cancer Foundation.
