Victoria Cougars defeated the Oceanside Generals 6-2


PARKSVILLE, B.C. – The Victoria Cougars defeated the Oceanside Generals 6-2 in the final game of the regular season for both teams on Saturday night.

With the win, Victoria finishes the regular season with a record of 41-5-1-1.

Cody Hodges (2), Dom Kolbeins, Ryan Lawson, Ryan Carson, and James Scott scored for the Cougars who now prepare for the postseason.

The pair from Hodges was his 39th and 40th goals.

Victoria led 2-1 after one period and 4-2 after two.

Anthony Ciurro picked up his league leading 27th win following an 18 save performance.

Replying for the Generals was Philippe Lam and Ethan Sundstrum who extended his point streak to 11 games.

Brandon Ward stopped 34 shots in a losing cause.

Oceanside now travels to meet the Saanich Braves in a play-in, wild card game.  The winner will advance to the postseason and take on the North Island leading Campbell River Storm in a best-of-7 series.

Last year, the Generals beat the Peninsula Panthers in the wild card game.

The Cougars finished 2-for-12 on the power play; meanwhile, Oceanside went 0-for-6.

Kolbeins celebrated his 20th birthday today with a goal and an assist.

Elsewhere in the VIJHL:  Kerry Park Islanders 5, Nanaimo Buccaneers 2.  Comox Valley Glacier Kings 5, Saanich Braves 3.

Next game for Victoria is Thursday, February 25 against the Kerry Park Islanders.  Game time at the Archie Browning Sports Centre, located at 1151 Esquimalt Road, is 7:00 p.m.
