Day 2 – ACAC Men’s Volleyball Championships

DAY  #2 – Friday, February 26
5th-6th Semi-Final #1

King’s Eagles Defeat SAIT Trojans 3-2 (21-25, 20-25, 29-27, 25-20, 15-12)
The first match on Day #2 saw an amazing comeback from the King’s Eagles over the SAIT Trojans. Down 2 sets to 0 the Eagles faced match point 24-23 before rallying to take the third set 29-27. That spark was all the King’s would need as they gathered momentum and captured the final two sets over the Trojans. Player of the Game for the King’s Eagles was #12 Ryan Brenneis with 11 kills, 4 digs and 3 blocks. POG for SAIT Trojans was #16 Braedon Anderson with 7 kills, 5 service aces, and 4 digs. The Eagles will now play the winner of the NAIT/Lethbridge match Saturday at 1pm.

5th-6th Semi-Final #2

NAIT Ooks Defeat Lethbridge Kodiaks 3-1  (11-25, 25-21, 25-19, 25-22)
The host NAIT Ooks came out flat in their 5th-6th semi-final match against the Medicine Hat Rattlers as the Rattlers served their way to a 25-11 first set lead. The Ooks woke up in the 2nd and scored the final 7 points in a 25-21 win. That was spark NAIT needed as they rode the momentum and took the next two sets and the match. Player of the Game for the NAIT Ooks was #11 Justin Knight with 8 kills and an amazing 8 service aces. POG for the Lethbridge Kodiaks was #17 Jamyson Dore with 9 kills, 3 service aces and 7 digs. The Ooks will now face the King’s Eagles in the 5th-6th place game Saturday at 1pm.

 

Semi Final #1
Keyano Huskies Defeat Medicine Hat Rattlers 3-1 
(27-29, 25-22, 25-22, 25-23)
With a berth in the ACAC Gold medal game and a trip to the CCAA Nationals at stake both teams came out swinging. It took extra points but MHC managed to take the 1st set 29-27. The Huskies responded by winning the next two sets by scores of 25-22. The fourth set was back and forth affair with the Huskies pulling out a razor thin 25-23 decision. Player of the Game for the Huskies was #6 Taras Silas with 25 assists. POG for the Rattlers was # 1 Isak Helland-Hansen with 12 kills and 11 digs. The Huskies will now play for ACAC Gold Saturday at 5:30pm while the Rattlers play for Bronze at 3pm.

 

Semi Final #2

Red Deer Kings Defeat Augustana Vikings 3-1  (25-20, 25-23, 25-17)
In a rematch of last year’s ACAC Gold medal game, the King’s and Vikings met this time in the semi-final. The top seeded Kings got up early on the Vikings in the first set and never looked back winning 25-20. The Vikings responded nicely in the second set trading points with RDC right to the end before the Kings pulled away right at the end winning 25-23. From their it was all RDC as they took the match in straight sets after a 25-17 third set victory. Player of the Game for Red Deer was setter #4 Luke Brisbane with 32 assists and 4 digs. POG for the Augustana Vikings was #11 Luke Ryan who had 10 kills and 6 digs. The Kings will now face the Keyano Huskies in Saturday’s Gold medal game at 5:30pm. The Vikings will face the Medicine Hat Rattlers for Bronze at 3pm.

3pm                   ACAC Bronze Medal  – Medicine Hat Rattlers vs. Augustana Vikings

5:30pm              ACAC Gold Medal  – Red Deer Kings vs. Keyano Huskies
