March 2, 2016, Victoria, BC (ISN) – If you want to support a great cause and catch some high calibre hockey action at the same time, be sure to head to The Q Centre in Colwood at 4:30 pm on Sunday, March 6th, as a number of Vancouver Canuck alumni will take on the HHC Warriors – a Canadian military all-star team – in the 5th Annual Heroes Hockey Challenge.

Founded by Glenn Cumyn in 2010 and owned by Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) Foundation, Heroes Hockey Challenge (HHC) is a series of charitable hockey fundraising events which take place annually in communities across Canada. HHC raises funds to support ill and injured Canadian Armed Forces members, veterans, their families, and families of the fallen.

Now in its fifth year following NHL alumni games in Calgary, Vancouver, Abbotsford, Edmonton and Toronto, HHC events have raised close to $250,000 to date. The PPCLI Foundation has provided over $37,000 to support Military Family Resource Centres (MFRC) and in part, proceeds from Sunday’s event will support the CFB Esquimalt MFRC.

Sunday’s game at The Q Centre is the first time the event has been in Victoria and on Vancouver Island and is being held as part of the National Canadian Armed Forces Old Timers Championships being played in Esquimalt from March 5th through 11th.

The Canucks team will feature such notable Canucks alumni as Orland Kurtenbach, Dave Babych, Dave “Tiger” Williams, Kyle Wellwood, Matt Pettinger, and very special guests Ty Gretzky, Garry Unger and Aaron Pritchett.

The HHC Warriors are made up of Canadian Forces all-stars from across Canada who have been selected from the five remaining teams that are playing in the National Canadian Armed Forces Old Timers Championships. They are Captained by Rear-Admiral Gilles Couturier.

Founder Cumyn is looking forward to an excellent hockey game and a great event, but cautions that this won’t be your typical charity all-star game. “I know for a fact that the HHC Warriors want to win this one. This is the fifth time that we have played this game and the HHC Warriors have not won a single game yet,” noted Cumyn. “If there was ever a time they have a chance to win, it will be this game. They will be gunning for the Canuck almni in this one for sure and that is part of the reason we have selected some of the top military players from across Canda to play in this game.”

“I know the Canuck alumni will also have their competitive skates on,” added Cumyn, “but we are hoping that they come into this one thinking that this is just another charity hockey game!”

In addition to the game, Sunday’s event will feature a silent auction with a number of fantastic items up for bid, including signed Wayne Gretzky memorabilia, a 50/50 draw and Heroes Hockey Challenge apparel sales.

The pre-game will feature the Naden band performing the national anthem, a tribute to a wounded soldier, a tribute to a Silver Cross family and a ceremonial opening face-off.

If you are interested in playing with the Canucks, there is also a spot up for auction. Starting bid is $250. Email with your bid. Bids end Thursday at 8AM PST.

Tickets for Sunday’s game are $10 each available online at  and will also be available at the door. Doors open at 4:30 with the game beginning at 5:30.
