Victoria, BC – The Victoria Royals recorded four unanswered goals to beat the Vancouver Giants 7-3 at the Save-On-Foods Memorial Centre in front of 6,311 fans on Hockey for Hospitals Night.
With the victory, the Royals set the franchise record for most home wins in a regular season with 23. The club have also now won eight straight games.
The Royals scored four goals in the final 20:40 of the contest as Vladimir Bobylev led the way with a four-point performance (2g-2a). Bobylev broke a 3-3 deadlock when he capitalized on a penalty shot with 40 seconds remaining in the second period. Victoria’s Bobylev, Jack Walker and Tyler Soy rounded out the scoring for the homeside. Soy and Ethan Price tallied the other markers for the Royals. The Giants’ received goals from Owen Hardy, Thomas Foster, and Ty Ronning.
Soy became the first Royal in the club’s five year history to record 40 goals in a season. The previous record was set by former Royal Austin Carroll (38) during the 2014-15 season.
Victoria goaltender Griffen Outhouse turned aside 27 of the 30 shots he faced. Vancouver netminder Jake Morrissey turned away 32 of 39 shots fired his way.
The Royals went 1/2=50.0% on the powerplay, while the Giants 1/3=33.3% with the man-advantage.
Victoria will continue their three-game homestand on Friday, March 11th when they take on the Prince George Cougars. Puck drop is slated for 7:05 p.m.
