Medicine Hat, AB – The Medicine Hat Tigers scored three goals in the final four minutes of regulation as they downed the Prince Albert Raiders 4-3 on Wednesday evening at the Canalta Centre.
In just his second game back after missing 33 games with an injury, Austin Glover opened the scoring with a power play goal. Jesse Lees and Layne Bensmiller also lit the lamp as Prince Albert skated out to a 3-0 lead in the first period. Simon Stransky finished the night with a team-high two assists.
Medicine Hat got on the scoreboard late in the first period as Chad Butcher notched a power play goal. Neither team would find the back of the net again until the 16:16 mark of the third period when Butcher recorded his second of the night. Less than a minute later, Zach Fischer tied the game. The Tigers completed the comeback with 1:40 left in regulation when Steven Owre scored the game-winning goal with a shot that deflected off a defenceman in front.
Butcher led the Tigers with two goals and two assists for four points, while Owre had a goal and two assists for three points.
Raiders’ goaltender Ian Scott got the start for the second-straight night and made 28 saves on 32 shots. Medicine Hat’s puck stopper Nick Schneider turned away 24 of 27 attempts.
The Tigers outshot the Raiders 32-27. Prince Albert went 1-for-2 on the power play, while Medicine Hat was 3-for-4.
Prince Albert sees their record drop to 36-23-7-1, while Medicine Hat continues their push for a playoff spot with a 27-35-3-2 record.
The Raiders complete their three-game road trip on Friday night when they visit the Swift Current Broncos for the final time this season The team is back at the Art Hauser Centre on Saturday, March 12, when they host the Broncos. Puck drop is 7:00 PM.
