VICTORIA – Fourth-year Vike Cole Peterson took home the only medal of the day with silver in the 1500-metre for the University of Victoria Vikes men and women’s track teams on Day 3 of the 2016 CIS Track and Field Championships in Toronto, Ont. on Mar. 12. The silver stretches the Vikes’ final medal count to two after the Vikes men earned silver in the 4×800-metre relay on Friday.

Peterson clocked in at 3:51.94 – 1:25 off Laval’s Antoine Thibault for the gold and 0.05 ahead of Windsor’s Taylor McArthur in third. Fellow fourth year Cody Therrien came seventh at 3:56.38 behind teammate Peterson to conclude the event.

On the women’s side, fifth year Shauna McInnis raced in her final event as a Vike in the 1500-metre and finished fourth with a time of 4:26.10. It will be a bittersweet feeling for McInnis after coming close to a medal in both of her final varsity races, losing the bronze in both the 4×800-metre and 1500-metre by a few hundredths of a second.

The final race of the championship saw the Vikes men’s team of Ryan Korol, Tyler Smith, Isaac Penner and Brendon Restall race in the 4×400-metre relay and finish seventh at 3:19.63.
