World Rugby has confirmed the nominations for the positions of Chairman and Vice-Chairman, which will be determined at the annual meeting of Council on 11 May 2016.

In accordance with World Rugby Bye-Law 9.6.2 (c), member unions were invited to submit nominations for the position of World Rugby Chairman and/or Vice-Chairman by the closing date of 12 March 2016. Bill Beaumont (RFU) has been nominated for the position of Chairman by his union to succeed Bernard Lapasset, who is not seeking re-election, while Agustín Pichot (UAR) has been nominated by his union for the position of Vice-Chairman to succeed Oregan Hoskins, who is also not seeking re-election. In accordance with the bye-law, both nominations were proposed and seconded by a member of Council.  At the Council meeting, a candidate must achieve a simple majority of the votes held by the members of Council present, in line with the electoral process set out under the bye-law. The vote numbers will be published.

For the position of Chairman, Bill Beaumont was nominated by RFU, proposed by Agustín Pichot (UAR) and seconded by Steve Tew (NZR). For the position of Vice-Chairman, Agustín Pichot was nominated by UAR, proposed by Bill Beaumont (RFU) and seconded by Michael Hawker (ARU). The new Chairman and Vice-Chairman will be elected for a period of four years commencing on 1 July 2016.
