Fixtures confirmed for U20 Trophy in Zimbabwe

World Rugby U20 Trophy final

The National Stadium in Harare, Zimbabwe, has been confirmed as the venue for the World Rugby U20 Trophy final in May.

The first three match days of the age-grade tournament will be played at the Harare Sports Club on 19, 23 and 27 April before the final is held on 1 May.   Eight teams are set to battle it out for the top prize over the 12 days, with a place at the World Rugby U20 Championship 2017 in Georgia awaiting the winner.

Hosts Zimbabwe qualified automatically for the tournament and will be joined in Pool A by Uruguay, Fiji and Samoa, who were relegated from last year’s U20 Championship. Namibia, Hong Kong, USA and tournament debutants Spain make up Pool B.   World Rugby Chairman Bernard Lapsset said: “With more than 650 graduates making the leap from the U20 ranks to the test arena since 2008, the World Rugby U20 Championship and U20 Trophy competitions are vital in the development of the future stars of world rugby.  “The U20 Trophy is growing in importance year-on-year and provides a crucial pathway for players from our high performance tier two and performance unions to achieve full international honours.”
