Prince Albert, SK – The Moose Jaw Warriors scored twice in the third period as they edged the Prince Albert Raiders 3-2 in Game 1 of their first round best-of-seven series on Friday night at the Art Hauser Centre.
After a tentative start by both teams, Game 1 turned into a compelling night full of highlight reel saves and big hits. Ultimately, the line of Dryden Hunt, Noah Gregor, and Brayden Point pulled through for the Warriors as they accounted for all three of Moose Jaw’s goals.
Reid Gardiner and Austin Glover scored for Prince Albert. Simon Stransky finished the game with a team-high two points after picking up a pair of helpers.
Point led the Warriors with a goal and two assists for three points. Gregor recorded two goals, while Hunt notched two assists.
Both goaltenders on Friday were making their first career playoff appearances. Rylan Parenteau turned away 36 of 39 shots in the Prince Albert crease, while Zach Sawchenko stopped 32 of 34 attempts for Moose Jaw.
The Warriors outshot the Raiders 39-34. Prince Albert went 1-for-1 on the power play, while Moose Jaw was 1-for-2.
The Warriors now lead the best-of-seven series 1-0.
The Raiders will host Game 2 of their Round 1 series with the Warriors on Saturday, March 26.
