March 27, 2016 Victoria, BC (ISN) – Fans were treated to some of Vancouver Island’s best cheer squad performances as the UVic Vikes Cheerleading squad hosted their second annual Island Cheer Showcase Saturday night at the University of Victoria’s CARSA gym.

Over ninety athletes strutted their stuff over the 45-minute showcase that also recognized Vikes individual achievements over the past season, including the graduating class.

The level six Vikes squad, to be joined by Victoria’s Vancouver Island Elite Cheer squads, have their sights set on the 10th Annual Sea to Sky International Cheer and Dance Competition, being held in Vancouver on April 8 -10 at Canada Place. The event, the largest held in Canada, annually attracts thousands of competitors from the USA and Canada, all bidding for a spot in the World Championships.

UVic Vikes and the Island Elite Cheer squads are coached by Kate Bell and Mishan Hedge. The Vancouver Island Elite Cheer squad, in it’s first year of competition under the guidance of Bell and Hedge, hope their Island Elite team’s valuable experience brought back from early competition in the USA will help their island competitors fair well during the 3 day competition in Vancouver.
