Prince George, B.C. – The Prince George Cougars are pleased to announce that forward Jansen Harkins (Prince George, B.C.) has signed an Amateur Try Out Agreement with the Manitoba Moose, the American Hockey League affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Winnipeg Jets.
In June, 2015 Harkins was drafted by the Jets in the second round of the NHL Draft. In 2015-16 with the Cougars, Harkins set a new season high for goals with 24 and finished the season with 57 points, which was fourth highest on team. He also led the team in playoff scoring with two goals and three assists.
Last season at age 17, Harkins led the Cougars in scoring with 79 points in 70 games and was named the team’s MVP. He was originally selected by the Cougars second overall in the 2012 WHL Bantam Draft and is the second fastest Cougar to have ever reached the 100 point mark. In 211 career WHL games, Harkins has 54 goals and 116 assists along with 116 penalty minutes. He’s also tallied two goals and seven assists for nine points in nine career WHL playoff games. Internationally he has represented Canada numerous times, including: The World Under-17’s where he captained Team Pacific (2013), the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament (2014) and the World Under-18’s (2015). Most recently he represented Team WHL during the 2015 Canada Russia Series.
