Nanaimo, BC – The Thompson Rivers University WolfPack baseball team finished their weekend 3-1 by taking both games of their doubleheader today (April 3rd, 2016) against the Vancouver Island Baseball Institute Mariners. The scores were 10-8 and 9-5. The 3-1 weekend improves the WolfPack’s record to 5-3 this season.
Rookie Dillon Ferguson (Kirkland, Washington) started game one for the ‘Pack and got the win. He threw six innings, giving up three runs on four hits and four walks. He struck out a season-high nine batters. Logan Kanadlaft (Calgary, Alberta) came into the seventh in relief. Kandalaft went 2 1/3 innings, giving up five runs (one unearned) on three hits and four walks while striking out one. Bryant Jameus (Kamloops, BC) recorded the save, throwing 2/3 of an inning, giving up zero runs and zero hits while walking two.
Evan Douglas (White Rock, BC) led the offense, going 3-4 with three doubles, three RBIs, two runs scored and a walk. John Young (Fort McMurray, Alberta) went 2-5 with two singles, a RBI and a run scored. Tyler Hodder (Fort McMurray, Alberta) went 1-3 with a two RBI double and a walk. Isiah McDonald (Grand Forks, BC) went 1-4 with a double and a hit by pitch. Blayne Halland (Kamloops, BC) went 1-5 with two runs scored. Malcolm Upton (Maple Ridge, BC) went 1-5 with a RBI single and a run scored.
Tony Tabor (White Rock, BC), Josh Hillis (Calgary, Alberta), and Jordy Cunningham (Ladner, BC) also all had a base hit each. Ethan Mohan collected a RBI.
Game two of the doubleheader was started and won by Tyler Hodder. He threw seven innings, allowing three runs (zero earned) on six hits and zero walks. He struck out four batters. Nelson Lipszyc (Calgary, Alberta) threw the last two innings, giving up two runs on four hits. He struck out none and walked none.
Evan Douglas led the offense again by crushing a three-run homerun in the first inning. He finished 3-4 with the homerun, two singles, three RBIs, three runs scored and a walk. Josh Hillis also collected three hits, going 3-5 with three singles and two runs scored. John Young went 2-5 with two doubles. Tony Tabor and Isiah McDonald both went 2-5. Tabor scored two runs while McDonald scored one run and also walked once.
Malcolm Upton collected a double while Ethan Mohan had a RBI single. Josh Iannetti (Fort McMurray, Alberta) got a single in the ninth for his first career CCBC hit.
The two wins for the WolfPack rises the team’s record to 5-3 on the season. They look to continue their winnings ways next weekend (April 9th and 10th) at home (Norbrock Stadium) against the Prairie Baseball Academy Dawgs.
