VICTORIA, B.C. – The defending men’s CIS cross-country champions are set to welcome another piece to the team, as Kingston, Ont. native Kieran L’Abbe has committed to the Vikes for the 2016-17 season.
A specialist in the 5 and 10km races, L’Abbe is a welcome addition to a program that already boasts a wealth of talent and enters next year looking to begin a streak at the CIS Championship.
“I’m excited to be joining a team that’s had so much recent success,” said L’Abbe. “Victoria is a beautiful place to train and my future teammates have been incredibly welcoming. In the coming years, with support from Brent and the University, I believe I can reach my highest potential.”
A political science major, L’Abbe joins the Vikes from Physi-Kult Kingston. He put up a number of impressive results with the team, finishing fourth at the 2015 National Juniors in the 5km and running a time of 14:45 in the 5km at the Athletics Ontario Championships.
“We are very excited that Kieran will be joining us in the fall,” said head coach Brent Fougner. “Kieran comes into the program with some solid cross country results and will make an immediate impact on our team as we go after a repeat banner at CIS Cross Country.”
L’Abbe begins his varsity career as a Vike in September of 2016.
