Eves of Destruction debut pre-season exhibition game a resounding success!

April 2nd, Esquimalt, BC: it was an exciting night for Island roller derby opening with Victoria’s The Hard Cores’ sizeable victory of 294:136 against Duncan’s Brass Knuckle Derby Dames, followed by Victoria’s The A-Team’s intense game against The Pick-Up Sticks (a composite team of A-level pick up skaters from around Vancouver Island) resulting in a win for the Pick-Up Sticks 210:107.

Saturday marked the first time The Hard Cores played as a team this season and for many of the skaters it was their inaugural bout. The top scorer for the first game was rookie skater Bony Banshee #17, of the Hard Cores, with 71 points, followed by Hard Core Toombstone #73, who is in her second season, with a total of 66 points.

The second game of the night featured many new skaters on the recently rebuilt A-Team, as many veteran skaters retired at the end of last season. The level of derby exhibited in this A level bout was exhilarating and inspiring. The A Team managed to keep the point differential to under 20 points by the end of the first half, but the offense and energetic jamming coming from The Pick-Up Sticks led them to an ever increasing lead in the second half and an eventual win. Top scorer of the second game was Devaskate #8, of the Pick-Up Sticks, with 76 points. The Wife of Wrath #1166 had the top score for the A-Team with 43 points.

Special thanks to the visiting teams, officials, and our fans for making the first ever pre-season exhibition game a great night of Island roller derby!

The beginning of the 2016 home season for the Eves of Destruction will soon be upon us. But the next action happens for the A-Team who is headed to play against Northwest Derby Co. in Bremerton, WA on April 16th.
