Darby McIntyre – Gold on Floor
Duncan Dynamics Gymnastics fourth competition of the season saw a team of 12 girls competing in 9 different level/age groupings at the Christy Fraser Memorial Invitational Feb. 12-14 at the Langley Events Centre, earning the club a combined 21 medals and 25 placement ribbons.
Micaylla Broadway – Gold All Around
Top athletes at this meet included Micaylla Broadway (JO9 1997-2001) who won the all around gold medal with a gold on bars and beam, and a bronze on the floor. Teammate Madison Barron (JO4 2003-2005) won silver all around, with a silver on bars and bronze on vault and floor. Darby McIntyre (JO10) won bronze all around with a gold on vault and floor, and a bronze on beam.
Hayley Baker – 1st on vault
Seven gymnasts won event medals, including Trystinna Bailey (JO6 1999-2002) who won gold on beam and bronze on floor, Brooklyn Stobbe (JO7 2004-2007) who won gold on floor and silver on beam, Samantha Johnson (JO8 1999-2002) who won gold on beam, Hayley Baker (JO9 1997-2001) who won gold on vault, Anna Akhurst (JO6 2003-2004) who won silver on floor, Tahara Brown (JO7 2003) who won silver on beam, and Gabrielle Austin (JO7 1998-2001) who won silver on bars.
Other gymnasts just missing out on the medals with top 5 scores were Jenna Laughland (JO6 2003-2004) who placed 4th on beam and Sarah Carson (JO6 2003-2004) who placed 5th on floor.
DDGC will host their annual ORCA Invitational Competition on Saturday, April 30th (9am-7:30pm) and Sunday, May 1st (9am-4pm) at the Island Savings Center with close to 300 athletes from across Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland expected to compete. They would like to invite the community at large to come and watch. There is a nominal admission charge which acts as a fundraiser for the gym. The club appreciates the community’s support and all the local businesses who help to make their event such a success.
