Stepping away from the UBC Thunderbirds for a moment, I wanted to inform you of a great story that you will want to send cameras and reporters to on Monday, April 18th.
For the 5th year the Vancouver Police Department will take to the soccer pitch for an exhibition match against members of the Vancouver Street Soccer League. The VSSL has gotten bigger and better every year of it’s existence and has sent several teams to the ‘Homeless World Cup’. This year a special guest will join the action, Vancouver Mayor Gregor Robertson. Along with being a huge soccer fan, Mayor Robertson has been an avid supporter of the VSSL since it’s inception. The exhibition match not only strives to promote ‘the beautiful game’, but also to enrich the feelings of community between members of the DTES and the VPD.
Who: Vancouver Police Department, Mayor Gregor Robertson, and members of the Vancouver Street Soccer League
Where: Trillium Park – 600 National Avenue, Vancouver, BC
When: 330pm – 500pm – Monday, April 18th
What: An exhibition match to promote soccer and enrich the feelings of community in the DTES
