(Halifax, N.S.) – Dalhousie University men’s volleyball coach Dan Ota is pleased to announce the commitment of Jeffrey Walton to the Tigers 2016-2017 lineup.
Walton comes to the Tigers from the Lasalle Secondary School Lancers and Vision Volleyball Club.
A team captain, he led the Lancers to four-straight city championship titles and a Northern Ontario Secondary Schools Association (NOSSA) championship this past season. They went on to a bronze medal finish at the Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations (OFSAA) championship.
A 6’4 left side player, Walton has been the Lancers’ most valuable volleyball player all four seasons (grade nine-12) and was the school’s male athlete of the year in grade 11. During the 2014-15 club season, Walton was the Vision team captain and MVP.
“I see Jeff filling a big role on our team as we transition to a new cycle over the next two years,” says Ota. “He can play left or right side, has a solid technical base, and is already pretty strong physically. He’s made a very positive impression on everyone that he’s met on our team and on our campus, so I think that speaks strongly to his character and values. Jeff is also a very good student and I think that his demonstrated excellence in multiple areas makes him a great fit with what we are doing in our program. I’m very excited to start working with him in the fall.”
The Sudbury, Ontario native has been a Lancer Scholar (honour roll student) all four years of high school and will begin a degree in mechanical engineering in September.
“I am extremely excited about starting a new chapter of my life at Dalhousie University,” says Walton. “Coming to Dal and playing for the Tigers will be an amazing and unforgettable experience that will help me grow as a person. I’m really looking forward to starting my new adventure!”
The Dalhousie Tigers finished the 2015-16 regular season first in AUS standings. They faced the UNB Varsity Reds in the AUS best-two-of-three championship series, falling 2-1.
