VICTORIA – The University of Victoria Vikes cross country and track program is pleased to announce the addition of 800- and 1500-metre specialist Julia Greer for the 2016-17 season.

“I am very excited that Julia has chosen to join us at UVic in September,” said Vikes head coach Brent Fougner. “Julia will have an immediate impact on our program by bringing depth to our women’s middle distance group.  She will strengthen our 4 x 800 and 4 x 400 relay teams next winter.  Long term Julia has all the attributes to become a very successful runner.”

Greer dominated in the 1500-metre at the BC Athletics Track and Field Championships during her high school career, winning three straight gold medals in the event (2013, 2014, 2015).

In 2015, the Surrey native also added BC Athletics bronze in cross country and helped lead her school, Semiahmoo Secondary, to senior bronze at the BC High School Cross Country Championships. For her efforts, Greer was named to the BC Youth Cross Country Team that traveled to Kingston, Ont., in November for the annual Canadian Cross Country Championships.

In total, Semiahmoo Secondary won four medals during Greer’s time with the team. As a rookie in 2012, she helped the senior team claim gold before doing the same for the junior team in 2013, when she was named one of BC Athletics’ Female Athletes of the Year at the Midget level. She closed out her high school career by helping her school to two straight senior bronze finishes in 2014 and 2015.

“I am extremely excited to be part of such a great running program and team,” said Greer. “Being accepted into Uvic School of Business and to compete for the Vikes is the best of both worlds and September can’t come fast enough.”

Greer kicks off her varsity career with the Vikes in September 2016.
